Looking to help a good cause? Craft Happiness Cleanup is looking for volunteers to clean Lake Johnson, by boat or on foot, on Saturday, July 22nd as part of Wake County Big Sweep. Volunteers will park and check-in between 8:30AM-9:30AM at Lake Johnson Park’s new Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center at 5611 Jaguar Park Drive. The Woodland Center is adjacent to Lake Johnson Pool and behind Athens Drive High School. All volunteers MUST sign two Liability Release Forms — one for the city and one for the county. Please do not park at Lake Johnson Park. Keep in mind that you need to check-in and sign your waivers at The Woodland Center in order to participate.
Participants will then walk 15 minutes over to the Lake Johnson Park boathouse. Make sure to grab your cleanup supplies near the park office, which includes gloves, trash bags, recycle bags, and Big Sweep data cards. Kayaks and canoes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for use during the litter cleanup as well. The litter cleanup runs from 10AM-12PM, followed by a special Volunteer Appreciation Party with lunch, music, and raffle prizes sponsored by Foothills Brewing of Winston Salem from 12PM-1:30PM. Adults must accompany all children age 16 and under.
What to wear and what to bring: Make sure you wear sturdy shoes and old clothes that can get wet and muddy. Don't forget your sunscreen, bug spray, water, and a hat!
