Channeling brings together the work of diverse but complementary artists Eduardo Lapatina, Marissa Zarrabzadeh, and Rick Grime. All three artists write of using art to mediate experience and sensation, thought and feeling—past trauma, frustration, dreams, anxiety, ideals—in order to translate it into a material form. Rick specifically describes the experience of making art as “channeling the creative force that shows shape and color.” We take the name of the show from his statement, but intend it to resonate with all the different meanings and manifestations of channeling: directing energy, corralling the natural world, transferring emotion, or speaking to the past, to ghosts. The exhibition runs from this Friday, July 21 through Sunday, September 10. Official Artists' reception August 18 (3rd Friday).
