Join us on September 23 & 24 as we welcome Naomi Ullian of Small Dangers Dance to Cirque de Vol!
Partner Acrobatics (all levels)
In this workshop we will explore fundamental practices of stacking, leaning, rolling, pulling, and other methods of sharing weight between two or more bodies. Methodology includes classical hand-to-hand style skills as well as Pilobolus-style partnering and acroyoga. Pre-requisites: Ability to hold a plank position with engaged alignment; ability to kick up to a handstand a plus.
Handstands & Inversions (all levels)
Join us for an in-depth look at the process of building and maintaining a solid handstand practice. Learning will include proper warm-up and stretching, pre-handstand drills, wall-supported inversions, partner drills, forearm balances, headstands, and making shapes in handstands. Pre-requisites: Willingness to go upside down!
Herbs & Food Medicines for the Active Body
As we make greater demands of our bodies and push their capacities toward unknown possibilities, taking care of nutritional requirements becomes more and more important to continuing our acrobatic practices. In this workshop we will explore fundamental guidelines for nourishing the body within body-positive and whole-foods contexts. Whether you are looking for new recipes or support in adjusting your daily food practices, this workshop offers everyday life skills as well as nuanced perspective on food, body, and active living.
Intermediate/Advanced Fabric Sequencing & Technique
This workshop offers fresh perspectives on stacking, combining, and flowing skills on aerial silks, with emphasis on technique and injury prevention. How are families of skills related, and how can they lead us down different, uncharted trajectories? Pre-requisites: Ability to climb to the top easily, invert cleanly in the air, tie footlocks easily, and work on windmill hipkeys.
Intermediate/Advanced Trapeze Sequencing
Join us for a deep dive into the conditioning, technique, and flow that allows for continuous movement on the bar and in the ropes. This workshop offers problem-solving practices and fresh ways to look at new and old skills in order to understand what goes into making innovative sequencing. Pre-requisites: Students should be able to do at least 2 pullups and feel comfortable with knee beats, pullovers, front balances, and inverting in the ropes.
Choreography & Creation
Whether engaged in ground skills or aerial arts, this workshop provides a space in which to explore the art of creation, editing, refining, and communicating with intent. Using structures exercises drawn from the world of dance, theater, circus, and creative writing, students will be asked both individually and collectively to push their experiences in the creative acrobatic processes. Pre-requisites: Safety and skill on apparatus of choice, without need for active or continuous spotting.
