Movie Loft saunters back to Shadowbox Studio for our one-year anniversary with a screening of the 1987 LA punk road semi-improv dusty crime drama known as 'Border Radio'.
Chris D., of Flesh Eaters fame, is Jeff Bailey, a musician that absconds with cash from a club, leaving his wife (Luanna Anders) and pals (John Doe of X, Chris Shearer) to track him down around southern California and Mexico. An indie jewel, shot on 16mm B&W, and with a damn good soundtrack to boot!
Allison Anders ('Four Rooms', 'Gas Food Lodging', 'Mi Vida Loca', etc.) directed (along with co-directors and fellow UCLA filmies Dean Lent and Kurt Voss) her debut over 4 years, and its a loose and gritty marvel with all sorts of non-actors and open spaces.
Naturally, to complement the scene, a smorgasbord of LA punk and post-punk and western-tinged music will be showcased. Arrive at 7 for tunes and hot dogs, flick starting a tad after 8.
Free, donations appreciated. BYO or sample what's on-hand!
