«Songwriting with a deft touch and a fine ear.»
~Frank Stasio, WUNC's The State of Things

«These sounds are as native to the North Carolina air as train whistles or birdsongs.»
~Django Haskins, Our State Magazine

My folks said I sang before I talked and danced before I walked...the songwriting came a little later! Raised way off the grid on a small homestead in the Midwest, I was steeped in music from the time I was born. Mom was a former Off Broadway actress and opera singer, and Dad was a prodigy on the violin who never met an instrument he didn't like our couldn't play! Although we didn't have any modern conveniences such as electricity or running water, we were rich in music.

Our simple life provided good fodder for family songs, and an after-dinner hootenanny was a regular occurrence.
It wasn't until I was a teenager that I began to be exposed to recorded music in its manifold forms. I fell in love with soul, folk, roots, old school country, bluegrass, hip hop and R&B. You name it, I wanted to hear it, and I wanted to sing it...which lead to some eclectic musical meanderings: In high school, I fronted a Southern Rock band; in college, I formed an acoustic folk duo and performed spoken word poetry. And in more recent years, I lead a five-piece bluegrass band, called Down River, which performed all throughout the NC Triangle for nearly seven years.

My primary passion has always been songwriting. I love the notion that a story, set to a melody, can touch a heart and change a life. In 2011, I was a finalist in the NC Songwriters' Co Op's Song Contest. That same year, I was honored to receive an Emerging Artist Award for songwriting from the Durham Arts Council. In 2013, I had the opportunity to share my music on WUNC's The State of Things with Frank Stasio.

Currently I sing on the praise and worship team at my local church and write and sing songs with my husband, Blake. Ultimately, I believe that music is a gift to be shared. Amidst the brokenness of this modern world, I hope to share simple songs that uplift listeners' souls and renew their spirits.
