State of Arts and Culture is an opportunity to kick off the new year with the arts community! Free and open to the public, the event features awards, announcements, and performances. Following the program, join us at a reception in the adjacent lobby.
In partnership with the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Business Support of the Arts awards will be presented in four categories (large business, small business, individual/foundation, and arts education). Having received numerous worthy nominations, we look forward to highlighting the inspiring work of this year’s award winners.
The 2018 Piedmont Laureate (a novelist) will be announced as well. Each year, a Piedmont Laureate is selected by the program co-sponsors (United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, the Durham Arts Council and the Orange County Arts Commission) in a different literary genre.
Following up on the impressive data released this summer as Arts & Economic Prosperity V, the newest Creative Vitality Index has recently been released (based on 2016 federal data). The Creative Vitality Index looks at the creative jobs sector as a whole in our County and allows Wake to measure itself against other communities nationwide
Each year, several groups of youths perform at the event, which has come to be a highlight. You will not want to miss these special performances!
