Join us for our Monthly dinner meeting
This month's guest speaker is Joseph Wheeler
Topic: Will You Still Love Me, Will You Still Need Me ……
It is estimated that by year 2030 one of every five residents in the US will be over 65, and communities, companies, and individuals are adjusting to the significance of this demographic shift. This presentation will center around research conducted by SAGE USA and by AARP that demonstrates, when compared to a heterosexual cohort, LGBTQ seniors experience health disparities, are more likely to be isolated, often have more fragile support networks, and have higher levels of concerns related to our aging.
At the same time, many segments of the aging services community appear to be ill-prepared to deal with our specific concerns. That opens up opportunities for businesses and individuals who are sensitive to our interests and concerns. While this aging generation has redefined what it means to get older, it is important that we understand the range of services and care that abound as our life situations change.
Joseph Wheeler has for almost 30 years been a successful consultant focusing on diversity and inclusion, leadership and communication skills, and strategic organizational development. In recent years, he has dedicated his work to understanding LGBTQ aging issues. In July 2017, he became the Coordinator of SAGE Raleigh, a program of the LGBT Center of Raleigh for people 50+.
